Activities and Camping

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thanks for getting in touch, I hope you'll find the enclosed information useful. The 25 years of experience and contacts we've built up since 1979 means that we can offer you a lot more than just activities. We've suggestions for campsites, accommodation, transport, hiking routes and day trips out of Bude.

We'll be happy to organise anything from a single activity session to an entire weeks activity programme.

Since our formation in 1979 we have provided activities and camping for a variety of Schools, Scouts, Guides,Boys Brigades and other youth organisations. Both myself, Nicola and our small team of professional instructors have had many years of experience in teaching Outdoor Pursuits. We are all fully qualified with recognised coaching qualifications from the BCU, BMC, RLSS and GNAS. Our Procedures and Equipment have been inspected and recommended by the BCU, Cornwall County Scouts and AALA.

Whatever size party you're planning to bring to Bude we'll be able to arrange activity sessions and programmes to suite your requirements. We normally split larger parties up into smaller activity groups of between 10 to 14 participants so that everyone gets the very best in personal attention and tuition. You may wish to book several days of activities or you may only require one or two activity sessions, the choice is yours, we'll be delighted to help with even the smallest request.

One of our big strengths is the close proximity of all our activities - none being more than a 10 minute walk from our base at the Atlantic House. As a consequence you'll find no time is lost in lengthy bus trips to activity sites.

We can recommend a variety of campsites, bunk houses and Youth Hostels. See our campsite list for details.

If transport to Bude is proving to be a problem then our local coach firm will be happy to help with either pick-ups from the local rail station / bus stops or complete return transport

We'll help in any way we can :- Activities - Campsites - Transport - Cost

Read through our information, decide how we can help and get in touch we can immediately draw up details for you to consider.

You may wish to come down to Bude prior to your camp to have a look at campsites, our activity venues and to discuss details with ourselves. We'll be happy to meet you at our base at the Atlantic House Hotel whenever you'd like and are happy to recommend over night accommodation / camping as required. So if your group is looking for quality activities and good value for money then please get in touch.

And finally having run high quality activities since 1979 we are proud to hold the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) Licence for Surfing, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Abseiling and Trekking (you should contact AALA on tel 01222 755715 for more information about this mandatory licence).

Advanced Activity ideas

Below are just a few ideas of the way we can adapt and extend our activities to match the levels of challenge and ability of your group members. Prices can be calculated once we know exactly what you require:-

Sea Kayaking - with a fleet of gp kayaks and an additional 6 specialist sea kayaks - how about a days sea kayaking expedition along the coast, or if you like - half the group paddle them out to a certain point and the other half paddle them back, lots of other options here, including an overnight bivvy??

Surf Kayaking - We're now the top centre in the country for this activity, with coaches of the highest qualification and the current World Champion in our staff team. We can provide sessions for the whole group or more personalized tuition and coaching as required.

Rock Climbing at an inland venue - some transport required but we could go away for the whole day and really get the the most from everyone.

Surfing - More than just a great activity - got to be part of any programme!

The Dartmoor Challenge - A day away from Bude on the edge of Dartmoor where groups of between 10 and 15 take part in a problem solving / team building sequence of challenges - great fun and very rewarding.

Additional Information

The Coastal Treks follow the cliff top paths towards Sandymouth or Duckpool where we descend to the boulder beaches for the return walk and scramble back to Bude. The National Trust cafe at Sandymouth gives a welcome break to some serious hills. This can be done as a half day activity but is more exciting if we use a whole day - the planning of this activity is affected by the tide so please ask for details. Moorland Guiding on Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor can include the organisation of competition hikes or hunting for Dartmoor's unique Letter boxes.

The River Challenge, Canadian Adventure, Ultimate Quest and Dartmoor Challenge are all great for encouraging initiative, communication and genuine teamwork.

Take a BCU award. The 1 star can be gained after 1 or 2 lessons where as 2 star,3 star or Canoeing Safety Test will depend on your initial experience. We can also run advanced courses aimed at the 4 star award both for Inland Kayak and the New Surf award, as well as River and Surf guiding and safety cover.

We provide all specialist equipment, which includes waterproof cags for kayaking and canoeing activities and wetsuits for surfing. Please ensure your group arrives well dressed for the weather conditions with a change of clothing for kayaking or canoeing. If in any doubt please contact us for advice.
