Bude SLSC 2km Swim

Shoreline are proud to support the Bude Surf Life Saving Club and have worked closely with them to design and run this open sea swim along the North Cornish Coast. This is not a swim for novices as conditions can be challenging but with the members of Bude SLSC providing expert safety cover we are able to run this exciting challenge with all proceeds going to the Bude Surf Life Saving Club.

The aim is to swim a 2km course along the North Cornish Coast from Northcott Mouth back to Bude. The swim is timetabled for high tide so if conditions are too severe for thievery exposed stretch of coastline we are able to switch to one of two other options all of which will create a 2km open sea swim.

Competitors will need to register and get briefed at Bude Surf Life Saving Club, Crooklets Beach, Bude (EX23 8NE) at least an hour before the start of the race. There will then be a competitors briefing and half an hour before the race start all competitors will walk across the cliff tops to Northcott Mouth itself. This is a pleasant grassy cliff top walk which shouldn't take any longer than 20 minutes.

You will be able to enter in various age group categories however the junior category is restricted to a minimum age of 16 years old on race day and all under 18's will need a named adult who will be swimming with them on the day.

Bude Surf Life Saving Club are hosting this event and will have their club house open throughout. At the end of the race changing facilities will be available as well as hot drinks and BBQ food. The trophy ceremony will take place in the club house.

Useful information

A is to start at Northcott Mouth, just north of Bude, and to swim back to Crooklets Beach parallel with the coastline. A slight dog-leg at the start will give 2km of swimming.

We do recognise that conditions on the day may make this route impossible and so there are alternate plans which will create 2 km sea swims. Plan B is a swim from Crooklets Beach to Summerleaze Beach and back and Plan C is a circuit swim within Summerleaze Bay.

Bude Surf Life Saving Club are hosting this event. Their club house at Crooklets Beach contains changing rooms and showers. Refreshments, hot drinks, soft drinks and a BBQ will be available at the end of the race.

Due to the nature of sea conditions along the North Cornish Coast we can only accept entries from competent open water swimmers. As a minimum you should have experience of swimming in choppy open sea conditions and be able to swim out and back through breaking surf.

Wetsuits are strongly recommended.

Under 18 competitors must be at least 16 years old and must have an over 18 year old swimming with and taking responsibility for them during the event.
