Bude Surf Life Saving Club Ski Race

Book now for early bird pricing until 12 January 2025

In 2023 we ran the first Bude Surf Life Saving Club long distance ski race between Crooklets Beach and Lower Sharpnose Point.

The race begins with all craft and paddlers lined up in thigh depth water, a whistle then signals a mass start with everyone jumping onto their craft and paddling out to sea. Once around an initial turning buoy paddlers then turn to the north and paddle approximately 5 miles parallel to the coastline to an apex buoy at Lower Sharpnose Point before returning back to Bude, turning the final buoy and racing back to the beach.

The event offers three categories:

  • Single Ski Men
  • Single Ski Women
  • Double Ski Open

Safety cover will be provided by Bude Surf Life Saving Club.

Should conditions be too rough to run the event in the open sea, an alternative time trial event will be run on the Bude Canal, covering a similar distance. There will be no portages, but the upper turn will be tight and may require a “three-point turn”.

All proceeds will go to Bude Surf Life Saving Club.
