Simon Hammond
Paddlesport, Lifeguard, Rock Climbing and First Aid Training
With over 30 years of experience in the outdoor industry, Simon Hammond has become a well-respected national-level trainer and course provider for various British Canoeing Personal, Leadership and Coaching awards. In addition, his involvement with Surf Life Saving has established him as a Surf Lifeguard trainer and assessor. His lifetime of experience working with groups and individuals in the outdoors has also proved an excellent background to become the provider of First Aid training with a particular focus on working with children and working in the outdoor industry.
Simon’s lifetime in sport led him to become the World Surf Kayaking Champion is 2003 after which he wrote the book “Surf Kayaking: The Essential Guide” and went on to coach several national teams. His paddling experiences include competing in the Devises to Westminster Canoe Race, The Exe, Liffey and Sella Descents as well as enjoying Open Canoe Expeditions, Ocean Ski Racing, SUP paddling and pretty much every type of paddle sport you can imagine. He is a very competitive Surf Life Saver competing every year in the National Championships and loves Rock Climbing with regular trips to Spain including the classic ascent of the 500m tower “Naranjo De Bulnes” in the Picos mountains of Asturias.
Simon runs Shoreline Extreme Sports with his wife Nicola where they stay busy running courses, summer activities and various sporting events. Although based in Bude Simon runs many of his training courses elsewhere around the UK. He operates around most of South West England and the Channel Islands with some courses in the Midlands or around the London area. He’s always happy to travel and run courses in new venues.

British Canoeing Paddlesport Courses
This two day course needs to be taken before you can move into your specialism and mixes theory and practical skills that will give you a strong coaching foundation in every discipline
This qualification allows leaders to run journeys and to operate in more exposed flat water environments including slow rivers and estuaries
Normally run as a two day course this qualification is perfect for instructors working in small sheltered environments using only SUP’s.

This one day course is necessary for anyone wishing to become a Paddlesport Instructor. A whole day of safety and practical rescue techniques.
